From the Principal's desk...

Staff Development Days - Tuesday 30 March & Wednesday 1 April

The staff at St Francis Xavier will have the opportunity to participate in a course that will explore the links between the K-6 Science and Technology Design and Mathematics. As participants, the staff will develop an understanding of ways to incorporate Digital Technologies to reinforce concepts from Mathematics and English,  and plan units to meet the needs of their own students.

These days will be conducted by Sarah Atkins from the Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority and we really appreciate the opportunity. Following these sessions, early next Term, we will share some of our learning with you.

The Three C’s of Leading Change - Mr Baker learning in the classrooms

Over the past couple of weeks our Stage 2 students and teachers have allowed me the opportunity to spend a large proportion of my time learning with them. Our focus has been how we, as a school, can better prepare our students in Mathematics and develop a deeper understanding of how they learn best.

A big thank you to Mrs Jensen, Miss Stuart and Miss Henry for giving me the chance to play in the classroom. Whenever we try to make change the Three C’s: Culture, Communication and Collaboration are pivotal. We are very lucky to have teachers that promote flourishing classroom environments that are built on these pillars.

I am really looking forward to seeing how this space grows and adapts in coming weeks. Great work and thanks again to the Stage 2 team and I hope the children enjoyed the changes.

Naplan Practise Session

Year 5 and Year 3 along with students all over the state this week participated in Naplan practise sessions. This was Year 3's first contact with the online platform and they were all great listeners and are now aware of the procedure. Year 5 were like ‘old hands’ and completed the session with ease.

Holy Week Liturgies

This term, as part of their unit of work around Prayer in Religious Education, the Stage 3 students have been working on creating prayer experiences to lead the school through the events of Holy Week. This week, we have experienced liturgies to celebrate Palm Sunday and Holy Thursday. Through the use of scripture, music, drama, symbols and creative staging, the Stage 3 students have done a wonderful job in creating meaningful prayer experiences for both staff and students. We are looking forward to continuing the journey through Holy Week to be led by Stage 3 next week.

A big thanks to all the parent helpers who assisted today with the Cross Country, we really appreciate your time. Congratulations to Mackillop house on winning the Carnival today! Just a reminder, we will have a fun run next Term for the kids who didn't want to run this time but would like to next time.
