Assistant Principal
What a wonderful start to the year! In every classroom you can find vibrant, engaged students and teachers who are happy to be back and learning together. Meeting lots of our families for the first time has certainly been a real privilege for me and also a challenge as I get to learn everyone's names. The St Francis Xavier community has certainly been very welcoming and I look forward to being an active member of this lovely community as we journey together throughout the year.
Kind regards,
Sharon de Dassel

Counsellor's Corner
Welcome back to school! I hope students and parents are feeling as refreshed as I am after the Summer break. During the break I enjoyed being with family and spending time by the ocean.
I am excited to see all our students returning. I am sure our students are excited too, particularly about seeing their friends. As part of the St Francis Xavier team we are working to serve every learner and ensure that our students feel supported as they return, no matter what challenges they are experiencing.
If your child needs support with adjusting back to school, you can speak with your child's class teacher, Student Wellbeing teacher, assistant principal, principal or your school counsellor.
Kind regards,
Denise Andrade

Swimming Carnival
The Competitive Swimming Carnival was held today! Ribbons and Age Champion trophies and the winning House shield will be presented at Assembly next week. The Clarence Zone Swimming Carnival will take place in Maclean next Thursday, 11 February. Good luck to all competitors in the Zone team! Thank you to Miss Wishart and staff on running a successful carvnival today and a huge thank you to our parent volunteers. Carnivals are very hard to run without volunteers. And how wonderful to be able to have some spectators at this event.

Road Safety
As children return to school, it is important to keep safety in mind. As parents you should take the opportunity to talk with your children about getting to and from
school safely.
Here are some safety tips:
1. Be alert and aware by traveling distraction free. Ask children to take off their headphones
when walking.
2. Choose a safe place to cross. The fastest way, may not be the safest way. Stop! One Step back from the kerb. Look! Continuously, both ways. Listen! For the sounds of approaching traffic. Think! Whether it is safe to cross and keep checking until safely across.
3. Keep safe getting in and out of the car. Always use the door closest to the kerb.
4. Keep safe getting on and off the bus. Wait at the bus stop and stand at least one step back from the edge of the road. Always meet your child at the bus stop. Never meet them on the opposite side of the road and call them across. Wait until the bus has gone, before you cross the road.
5. Hold hands to cross the road. Until they are ten children should hold an adults hand.
6. Wearing a helmet. Children must wear a helmet when riding a bike in any public place – it’s
the law. Foot scooter, skateboard and rollerblade riders should wear helmets and protective
gear such as knee and elbow pad.
Be a positive role model when you are a pedestrian, passenger and driver. Children learn from
what they see, as well as what we say.
Never sacrifice safety for convenience.
