School Events

It has been an absolute blessing having so many families join us here at school for numerous events over the past couple of weeks. The staff and students love welcoming everyone as well as showcasing what makes our school so special. I am so pleased that as a school community we have moved beyond the restrictive times of COVID.

Father's Day

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our fathers a Happy Fathers’ Day for this coming Sunday. Also, I would like to share a gift that I lean on as a father. It is what our Lord Jesus Christ gifted us, the Our Father.

Book Week and Grandparents Day

What a wonderful celebration of Grandparents and Books. We loved the amazing costumes and the fact that this year we could once again share this experience with some very special people in our students' lives, their grandparents. The Book Fair was once again well supported. Special thanks to Mrs Suzie Coster and Mrs Lainie Barselaar who ensure the smooth running of the Book Fair each year. Thank you also to those who joined us for the morning. Your presence made it very special. We have included below a highlight package of the day. Enjoy!

Reading Night

Read, read, read was the message and the focus of the Reading Night. Sharing the belief that reading lies at the heart of all learning, and what this looks like at St Francis Xavier, provided us with an opportunity to connect face to face. Teachers and parents working together for the success of the student, what a positive point of engagement.

An added bonus on the night was the sausage sandwiches and cupcakes. Thank you to the Parent Assembly representatives Mrs Barbara Ewart (St Francis Xavier) and Mrs Chrissie Morrison (Catholic Schools Office) for supporting us with supplying the food and being a part of the evening.

Father’s Day Breakfast

We had a great turn out for the Father’s Day Breakfast on Friday. It was lovely to see so many Dads, Poppies, Pa's and Uncles enjoying spending quality time with the kids and each other. Great to see everyone in their team colours for Jersey Day.

A Focus on Inclusion

Follow up from Dr Nicola Holmes

As a follow up from the talk by Dr Nicola Holmes, (video published in the previous newsletter) I thought it would be worthwhile sharing some of the valuable resources that she has recommended to support families:

  • Netflix documentary “Social Dilemma”
  • “Lifetimes” great book about death for primary school aged kids
  • “Barefoot investor for families” (Great ideas for building financial independence of kids) Scott Pape

The links below have also been recommended by Dr Nicola Holmes.

Parenting courses through Burnside
Head to Health website
Sparky and Shady books
“Tricky Kids” by Andrew Fuller

Another helpful resource for families is the eSafety website.

Barney Barselaar Cup

A number of Stage 3 students from across the Coffs Coast came together for the 12th Annual Barney Barselaar Cup held in Woolgoolga on Thursday, August 25th.

After a two year hiatus due to Covid restrictions, soccer teams from Mary Help of Christians Sawtell, St Augustine’s Coffs Harbour, Bishop Druitt College and St Francis Xavier Woolgoolga played against each other in a round robin contest.

The Cup is played in the spirit of friendship and good-natured competition, to honour the memory of Barney, a student of St Francis Xavier who sadly passed away fourteen years ago, aged 9.

This year the winning team at the end of the day was Bishop Druitt College who played Mary Help of Christians in the Grand Final, whilst St Augustine’s won against St Francis Xavier in the play-off for third and fourth.

Well done to all players and our school team who represented St Francis Xavier on the day.

Sydney Sixers Players Visit Stage 2

On Wednesday we were lucky enough to receive a visit from two professional cricket players.

  • Anika Learoyd: WBBL Sydney Thunder (born in the North Coast)
  • Hayden Kerr: BBL Sydney Sixers – All-Rounder

Students in Stage 2 enjoyed hearing the players speak and participating in some cricket skills.
