Bicentenary of Catholic Education in Australia
Thursday marked the virtual launch of the Bicentenary of Catholic Education in Australia. Australian Catholic schools have a long and proud tradition of delivering high-quality, faith-based education and throughout the year there will be opportunities to reflect on the past and look at future directions. We look forward to joining more than 1,750 schools across the country in marking this achievement as the year continues.
COVID-19 Reminders
We are still under COVID-19 restrictions similar to the end of last year. If students are unwell please keep them at home. If students are sent home from school with fever, cough, sore throat or any other cold or flu symptoms, they are required to be COVID-19 tested and will not be able to return to school until a negative test result has been produced to the school and the student is symptom free.
Parents are still unable to attend Assembly. Parents must remain outside school gates at drop-off and pick-up times. Parents can volunteer in the Canteen. Any visitors to the school must sanitise on arrival, sign in at the office and collect a visitor lanyard.
We thank our families for their continued patience and support throughout these still uncertain times.
Kind regards,
Sharon de Dassel
Assistant Principal
Year 6 Camp
Year 6 are off to Camp next Week at Yarrahapinni where they will engage in a variety of activities. We hope they have an amazing time and look forward to Year 6 leaders (each and every student is a leader) coming back with exciting tales to tell, stronger friendship connections and further developed leadership skills to engage in service with our community throughout 2021. Have an awesome time Year 6!
Season of Lent
This week the season of Lent began with Ash Wednesday, which also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allows Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to alleviate poverty, hunger, oppression and injustice.
Each family will receive a Project Compassion box for donations. We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent by helping us to support Project Compassion, remembering that every little bit helps, so any contribution is welcome.
Saint Oscar Romero is our inspiration for Project Compassion 2021, so in his words let’s “Aspire not to have more, but to be more.”
Kind regards,
Katrina Ryan
Leader of Catechesis & Evangelisation
Tuckerbox
At St Francis Xavier Primary School we have a 'tuckerbox' to support families who are dealing with illness or extra family demands and need a helping hand. We regularly send out 2-3 meals each week.
Over the years we have been blessed to have the support of the St Francis Xavier Church Pastoral Care Team who have made many meals for us.
You can be part of this initiative by cooking a meal that can be frozen and ready for a family in need. We are more than happy to provide containers and recipe ideas.
Some families have previously offered to donate money which we can use to buy a ‘home cooked meal’. If you would like to make a donation you can send it in to the school office.
This is an important pastoral care initiative within our school and Parish communities. Please support us if you can.
If you can help please email helen.hunt@lism.catholic.edu.au or contact the school office on 6654 1981.
